Why do we do this? Well, it is called fear. Fear of the results or mistakes we might get, fear that we have limited our choices, fear that things will change and uncertainty as to whether we will like it or not, whether it is safe, lucrative or exciting. There is also this fear of commitment or taking responsibility for our own results. Maybe the biggest difficulty is just to accept things as they are. Avoiding taking action can produce anxiety and low self esteem. Then we have created a tendency to believe we can't. We are not good enough, the idea is poor, etc. So what can we possibly do?
First, know that to learn something we have to try, and in trying we make mistakes. This is how we learn and get better and more knowledge. The only way you can't learn from making mistakes is by being unaware or unconcious. The more mistakes you make the more you learn if you stay awake. So here is the start of your path towards the life you want. Take a risk, take action and learn to be mindfull of what you do and the results. See what you are doing and change what needs to be changed to get the result you want.
Second, write down your most important goals. Ask yourself why are these important? Pick the most important goal. Then ask if this is the best use of my time at the moment? Why? Break it into steps or bite sized chunks, doable bits. If you are confused or feel you need guidance or support, ask for it. A coach can be very helpful with the formation and focusing of your goals, through a gap analysis and setting smart goals. The coach will ask you the right questions at the right times and support and motivate you.
Third, take action, massive action and begin. When you finish reading this, start doing it. Starting has a superior kind of magnetism and magic to it. It attracts resources, ideas, assistance and results and gives you the opportunity to learn how. You may have heard of the Law of Attraction. In many cases it is so misused that it looks like hocus pocus and New Age woo woo. But here is the thing, creation flows where energy goes. Where you put your attention and energy creates results. This will require that you build that discipline muscle and perhaps learn and practice some time management and communication skills. It's all good.
Start now and take continuous action. Review what you do and learn from all of your mistakes. Ask for or seek help. Get a personal coach. Model your behaviour after someone you admire as a success model. Remember to celebrate each little success. Be satisfied with who you are and know you have most of the answers and all of the energy necessary to do it! Take mindfullness training and live conciously and mindfully.
"You know what, Grandpa", says one of my grandchildren to me, and then he has my complete attention. So I say to you, "do you know what, my friend", have I got your attention? You can do this! Procrastination is just a mind game you can end by choosing to take action. You can end it right now.
Change the way you think and what you believe and you will change the quality of your life and bring in some truly magic moments. Besides you will have more of what you want and less of what you don't want.
